looks like im about to become a grandma,,,my son brought me a hammy a fortnight ago,,and she was so friendly,,well this past week shes got nasty ,,and also fat,,,very ,,very fat indeed,,plus he (my son just told me she was in with two other hammys ,,, and ive found out they can have upto ten babysarghhhhhhhhhhh,,im scared for her shes only 9 weeks

Aww - bless her. Hopefully she'll be okay, some young mums are fab - but it might go the other way.

Just leave her to it, feed her lots of proteiny foods (chicken, egg, porridge, baby food etc - this really is important). When the babies are born you must NOT handle them for at least two weeks or until their eyes open, otherwise she might kill them. They can have up to around 16 babies, I know of some with that many surviving - but I'd say about 7 is normal.

They usually give birth on the 17th night of pregnancy - so if she hasn't given birth after 18 days she either likely isn't pregnant or you might need to take her to a vet. xxx

i think shes had them jane,,,she didnt come out at all yesterday ,,just made the biggest nest ever,,with nearly a whole loo roll,,lol,,it in the furthest corner,,,she came out this morning looking loads thinner searching for food,,,so we fed..her,,but each time we go down her end of the room she dives back into her nest,,shes seems very protective,,oh well now we just have to wait,,,

don't know whether to say congratulations or commiserations sorry Treez, I hope that her pregnancy went well and she has lots of healthy babies, and that you can find them all loving homes when they grow up.

we had eight babys 4 boys 4 girls all alive and very well,,my daughters having one a colour ive never seen before ,,sort of minky gingery with red eyes,,his very unusual,,but very friendly,,the rest are to find homes yet
